Be thankful for the little things
It is so easy to take the little things in life forgranted. Often times, we can find ourselves dwadling through life haphazardly. We repeatedly forget to do devotion, we forget to pray, and we forget to thank God. We can even get in the routine of just thanking Him for the sizable things like landing a job, having money, finding your spouse, birthing a child, or letting your grandma survive her surgery. Some times we forget the pint-sized blessings like waking up, having food to eat, having clothes to wear, and being able to walk.
God does so many things that you fail to even see in your daily life. Praising God for waking you up is certainly not a waste of breath. In fact, you could thank God for that very thing. You see, we aren’t promised tomorrow; we aren’t even promised our next breath. Don’t get so caught up in life that you neglect to thank God for everything He has done, is doing, and will continue to do in your life.
There is an exercise my pastor had my sister and I do a few years back. It made me realize how much I take for granted every single day. What we had to do was carry around a paper and pen and write down everything you notice in your daily life that God has blessed you with. Big or small, write it down. Make the list as long as you want. You can writesomething as big as thanking God for your spouse or something as small as thanking him for your toothpaste. You can either pray and give thanks when you notice them and are writing, or you can wait till you get home and pray. I have done this many times. I never noticed how much God has blessed me with. So as you go through your day, give thanks for the small things.
