I have so much to do
“You know I love you God but my teacher just offered me extra credit if I write a 3 page paper by tomorrow night and I really need it. Yes, I know I could have said no to working that extra shift tonight but God, I really need the money. You know, Valentine’s Day is coming up, I really wanna take my girlfriend/boyfriend to a good restaurant. I know I promised I’d spend time with you but I forgot to do my laundry the other day, I really need to do it right now.
I have to spend 2 hours minimum watching Netflix with my boyfriend/girlfriend. On suday mornings, I signed up to sing at church, be in the choir, and teach a Sunday school class for the children. I have to play guitar for about 1 hour in order to get better. I need to find time to sleep still, plus I have to use the bathroom every once in a while. God, I don’t think I have time for you today, but I promise, tomorrow, I will try to at least spend 5 minutes reading the Bible.”
I guess I’ll make time for God
You have so much to do. You find it hard to make time for God. He knows how busy you are, so He knows that you just can’t do devotion right now. We all find ourselves running through life in full speed. There’s no time to just relax or “make time with God.” Have you ever thought about that sentence? You’re talking about making time for the God who actually made time. When you say “I’m going to make time for you,” that sounds like it’s asking to much to spend even a little time with Him.
“Alright God, I suppose I can fit you into my schedule around 4 but this better be quick.”
If you’re too busy
God loves you and He loves that you are doing stuff that you enjoy. But here’s the thing… if you are too busy to spend time with God, then you’re way busier than God intended you to be. If you are having trouble balancing school, work, kids, family, hobbies, etc., then you need to take the time to figure out what you can do to give more of that to God. And when you do sit down with God, don’t rush it. Sit down, relax, and let the spirit move in your life. If you’re rushing to get done so you can go to the movies with your boyfriend, then you’re going to miss God’s still small voice or even miss something He’s trying to show you.
“I spent five minutes with God today, I’d say I’m a pretty good Christian. Tomorrow I’ll try to spend ten minutes instead, then I’ll be a great Christian.”
You shouldn’t judge how Christian you are based on how many minutes you spend a day with God. Don’t worry about time.
When you do devotion, set your phone somewhere on silence, place yourself in a quiet room, and enjoy time studying Gods word. Remember, reading God’s word is a privilege, don’t treat it like an obligation.
So let this be a reminder, speaking to myself too, to just slow down, take it easy, and spend one on one time with God without rushing or worrying about what all you have to do. Let God be your focus.
Great message!!! We need to give God our “first” time!! Make Him a priority.
Thank you so much! And we do need to make Him a priority, instead of just putting Him on the backburner.
Love love love this. Such an important message right now. We are so busy and everything is microwaved and instantaneous. Sitting and spending time with God is so difficult and yet so fulfilling. May this message penetrate the noise of the world we live in.
Exactly! Everything is so fast paced now days. Once we take the time to sit down with Him, the results are amazing.
How true and yet how often our time in Gods word gets put on the back burner. I do agree that God never intended for us to be this busy.
It really does. Sometimes it starts off with just forgetting to spend time with Him one day. Then, we are forgetting all the time.
I absolutely Love this! I’m heading to college this Autumn, and I think this is going to be one of my biggest struggles! Thanks for the encouragement! I love when you said “Remember, reading God’s word is a privilege, don’t treat it like an obligation.” I think that this is something that we as Christians get so caught up in. We think that this is just another chore on our endless list of chores. We forget that we should be thankful that we get to read such a beautiful love story-a love story that is the reason we believe as we do! May we never take having and being able to the Word of God for granted!
Wow! That’s super exciting. I bet it’s going to be pretty scary too. I’ll be praying for you! We do get caught up in just adding it to our list of chores. We really do need to be more thankful.
“Reading God’s Word is a privilege, don’t treat it like an obligation.” This quote right here is life. I love it!
Thank you!
