In The Valley (Original Christian Worship Song)

By December 12, 2017 Worship songs

In the Valley- Chrissy Kertscher

in the valley worship song

I have been going through an incredibly rough time recently. Everywhere I turn, Satan is trying to mess things up for me. Right now, I am in the deepest valley of my life. I have felt hopeless, lost, and like there is no way out. Every time I have been about to get out, I fall right back in it, flat on my face. A lot of times, people can get to a place where they doubt God, where they stop praising God, or start asking Him why He’s doing this.

Why I wrote It?

I wrote “In the Valley,” as my response to God as I face some of the hardest trials in my life. Our first reaction to hurt, pain, trials, and struggles should be praise. Just like Job did at the beginning. Even after losing everything, his response was worship. I know that God is helping me. He is fighting this battle for me.

A song that has been my go to song when I am on my knees before God, is a song called, “This is How I fight my Battles” by The Upper Room. I added this at the end of my song because it is so simple yet it means so much. It says, “It may look like I’m surrounded but I’m surrounded by you.” Those words alone overwhelm me.

I hope and pray that this song means as much to you as it did for me while I was writing it. I know, that even in the valley, God is before me and behind me. God placed me on the mountain… I worshiped Him. Then, I was placed in the valley… and I continued to worship Him.

Lyrics:

Verse 1

I’ve been walking for a really long time in the valley, You hear my cry.

It’s been painful but you see me here and You’re fighting all my fears.

Pre- Chorus

Even in this hurt, and when I can’t sing, I’ll praise you. I will Praise you.

Chorus

I’ve been on the mountain before. I worshiped You then and I will worship You now.

And now as I’m in the valley give me strength and test my faith.

I’ve been on the mountain before. I praised You then and I’m not going to stop, now.

And now as I’m in the valley, lift up my head to where I only see you. Be my joy when I don’t have hope.

Verse 2

As I go through this trial I’ll wait, wait upon You Lord.

As I fight this battle, You are helping me and I am down on my knees.

Bridge 1

I would have never chosen this for me You know what I need better than me

Bridge 2 (This is How I fight my battles/Surrounded- Upper Room)

This is how I fight my battles

This is how I fight my battles

It may look like I’m surrounded

But I’m surrounded by You

I hope you guys like the lyrics. Check out the video here if the one on this post doesn’t work! Let me know what you think!

Slow Song: One Thing Remains by Jesus Culture

By December 4, 2017 Worship songs

One Thing Remains by Jesus Culture

This is definitly an older song and is still a very popular song in many churches. This song is a great reminder that no matter what, His love will never fail us. In a world full of disappointment and hurt, one thing remains… and that is His love.

Here are the lyrics:

Verse 1

Higher than the mountains that I face
Stronger than the power of the grave
Constant through the trial and the change
One thing remains,
Yes, one thing remains

Chorus

Your love never fails,
It never gives up
It never runs out on me

Verse 2

Because on and on, and on, and on it goes
Before it overwhelms and satisfies my soul
And I never ever have to be afraid
One thing remains
So, this one thing remains

Bridge

In death, in life I’m confident and covered by the power of Your great love
My debt is paid.
There’s nothing that can separate my heart from Your great love

The verses of this song because of how much they magnify His love. In the pain, hurt, and trials we go through, His love remains. His love is stronger than the grave! That is a great reminder that He loved us enough to send His only son to die a horrible death that you and I deserved. BUT He didn’t stay dead… HE ROSE AGAIN!

The ‘Like Jesus’ Challenge: Week 4 (Self-Confidence)

By August 28, 2017 Like Jesus Challenge
self-confidence

Welcome to Week 4: Self-Confidence!

The challenge I am about to ask you to do this week might be especially hard for some people. I know I struggled with this for a long time and still do on occasion. This whole week, you need to do this one simple task to help with your self-confidence. It won’t take any longer than a couple minutes of your day.

The Challenge

All of week 4, I want you to look in the mirror at some point through out the day and tell yourself 5 things that you like about yourself. You can say it in your head or even out loud but if you’re in public, some people may think you’re crazy. Hey, who cares! As Christians, we are supposed to stand out. So if you want to talk about all the things you like about yourself out loud, DO IT.
You are beautiful.

Personally, if someone told me to do this every day for a week about a year ago, I can positively tell you, I wouldn’t be able to find one feature that I liked about myself. This is something I really struggled with. Every girl that would cross my path, I would instantly point out to myself how pretty they were and it would make me compare myself to them. I’m so glad that God worked on that with me because I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have the self confidence that I have now while I’m going through what I’m going through.

Comparing

If I’m being honest with you all, I have been going through a  pretty rough breakup. I’ve had to watch him bring girls to church and watch him flirting with them and laughing with them. God has been working in me so I don’t get jealous but it takes me quite a bit of self confidence to not start looking at all my flaws when he’s bringing all these beautiful women to the church. I still find myself comparing myself to them sometimes but I am going to continue working on it. You should too!

You are so beautiful in the eyes of God. He made you look just the way He wanted you to look. He looks at you and sees no faults. God doesn’t look at all your flaws; He looks at all the beautiful. You look exactly how God wants you to look.

So everyday, look in the mirror. Tell yourself you like your hair. Say that you love the clothes you wear. Share about how beautiful the color of your eyes are! There are so many things that you could say each day. God did not make junk when He made you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalms 139:14). You’re shaped the way you are for a reason. You have the voice you have for a reason. The facial features you have, God designed perfectly the way he wanted. Quit looking in the mirror and thinking bad things about yourself. Ultimately, what you are saying is, “God, I know you made me the way you wanted but I don’t think you did good enough.”

Don’t let the world define beauty

Stop letting the world decide wether you are beautiful or not! The world does not know the true definition of beauty, they have a twisted, unrealistic version of beauty. So if you are a Christian, go to Gods word. See what He has to say about how beautiful. I promise, you will not be disappointed. God thinks highly of you; He doesn’t want you looking in a mirror bashing yourself or comparing yourself to other people. There is only one blueprint for you, as my pastor would say. You are one of a kind. You’re a snowflake.

You can’t change who you really are; you can’t change the way you look. So stop trying to fit in when you were made to stand out. If you can’t change how you look, why get upset about it, you have to deal with it anyways.

I wish I could change my voice

This is something I used to wish every day. Then I realized that I was telling God He didn’t do a good enough job. If God called me to lead worship, then why don’t I have a voice like Lauren Diagle or Steffany Gretzinger? God spoke to me and removed these thoughts from my head. An old pastor of mine once said, “God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.” I could compare my voice to other singers and say how much better they are then me, but where does that get me? No where. Because in the end, my voice is still the same, but now I am just thinking my voice isn’t very good.

I’d much rather remember that God has placed a calling on my life to lead worship for a reason. What if me having a better voice would have made me get big headed and proud? What if that made me prideful? There is a reason for everything. God hears my voice. He hears me singing to Him, whether I am singing like Kari Jobe or like someone who can’t even stay in key. I have learned to love the voice God has given me and that has allowed me to go way further than I ever thought I could.

Never in my life would I have thought I would go from turning my piano all the way down so no one could hear me in a worship band, to being a worship leader, playing guitar (an instrument that isn’t even my main instrument) and singing. God can take, even the things you think aren’t good enough, and use them in a huge way. So as you go through week 4, try your hardest to boost your self-confidence.

Self-confidence is attractive

I don’t know if you know this or not, ladies, self-confidence is so attractive. Now hear me out, don’t go all crazy boasting about how beautiful and awesome you are. Don’t be prideful about it. Just being able to take compliments and walk confidentially makes you a thousand times more beautiful. You don’t need to go fishing for compliments when the Bible has plenty of those for you from someone far greater than anyone walking this earth. Know what God says about the way you look. Don’t look in the mirror and bash a beautiful thing God has made.
So, for all of week 4, say 5 things about yourself that you like. Don’t do this half-heartedly. Seriously try to be more confident in who you are, you aren’t changing that. So accept it and realize how beautiful you are! Self-confidence is waiting… your move.

Reminder:

Just like I say at the end of most of these challenges, make sure you continue doing the past weeks. Keep smiling and remembering bible verses. You want to continue doing these things as much as you can until it becomes more natural to do them. Your heart and attitude will change. But only if you are in the word of God daily and spending one on one time with Him because ultimitely, we need to be growing deeper and deeper into our relationship with Jesus. Good Luck!

The ‘Like Jesus’ challenge: Week 3 (Memorizing Scripture)

By August 21, 2017 Like Jesus Challenge
week 3-memorizing-scripture-bible verses

Hey there again!

Glad to see you reading this for week 3 of the like Jesus challenge. How did last week go for you, smiling at everyone? I hope it went very well. I’d love to hear about it! Today, I will be sharing with you what you will be doing all of this week (week 3). Are you ready?

Week 3: Memorize one bible verse and find a way to use and apply it each day this week.

It’s one thing to know the scripture but it’s a game changer when you are acting them out and actually doing what they say. Take some time today to find what scripture you want to learn this week and start memorizing. Learn it so well that when you hear the reference, you can quote it without any hesitation. If you have never learned scripture before or aren’t really sure how to, click here to read my post about memorizing scripture.

It is important for us to be learning scripture as Christians. We don’t always have a bible with us. It can be very beneficial to have some key verses in your mind and heart. Go back to the bible verse you choose as often as you can this week. Look at it or say it multiple times a day. Say it to a close friend; say it in a prayer.

Why?

Learning scripture can be super encouraging for you and others around you. If you are trying to take action in the Bible verses rather than just reading or memorizing them, you are going to make a huge impact in your life and in many others around you.

If you want to follow Christ and be (humble, kind, forgiving, etc) like Him, then memorize scripture. I promise, if you do rather than just read it and forget about it, your heart will begin to change. Your attitude will move out of the way to make even more room for God in your life. But if the extent of this is just memorizing or reading a scripture, you are not going to get what you are wanting out of this challenge.

Apply it.

Matthew 18:21-22 says, “Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.” If you were to memorize this verse, it does you no good unless you apply it to your life. You shouldn’t be memorizing this bible verse but holding a grudge on Susan from a year ago when she stole your $1.50 that you were going to buy a Spongebob ice cream with.

I know when your brothers and sisters sin against you, it may be a bit worse than stealing $1.50 from you but regardless of the situation, the Bible says it plain as day. Forgive. Even when you don’t want to. Even when you’ve given them more chances than you think appropriate.

The point of me saying all of this is, don’t learn the scripture and then not apply it to your life. Learn it and then let it change you because it will, if you let it. So for this whole week, take out some time to learn one or two scriptures really well and try your hardest to apply it to your life each day this week. It may be hard at first but I promise, you will get the hang of it!

Don’t forget!

Do the other weeks challenges as well. Continue praying for others. Continue smiling at people. Use these challenges to form healthy habits that will brighten your day and your walk with God. Let these challenges allow God to change your heart and attitude. Make sure you read your bible every day this week as well! You have to be in the word if you want an attitude adjusment. Good luck this week!

Medium Song: Give Me Faith by Elevation Worship.

By August 18, 2017 Worship songs
give me faith

Give me faith

Elevation worship is one of my absolute favorite worship bands. I love their music. Most of the time it is super simple and repetitive so if you don’t know it, you can still easily sing along. We just recently did an event at my church and right when I heard the theme, which was ‘reset’, I was quick to go to this song. Let me share the words with you.

Verse 1:

I need you to soften my heart
And break me apart
I need you to open my eyes
To see that You’re shaping my life

Verse 2:

I need you to soften my heart
And break me apart
I need you to pierce through the dark
And cleanse every part of me

The verses are us in need, asking for Him to basically change our heart, open our eyes, and let others see Him through us. I know I’m not the greatest person all the time. I used to have a really bad attitude. Singing this puts a smile on my face because that should be our prayer. We should want our heart to be softened so that we can show others the love of Christ.

God has His plans for us. That doesn’t mean we have a plan for us. He knows what we need, even when we think we do, He knows better. His ways are higher than our ways. His thought are higher than our thoughts. He is shaping and molding our lives into what He wants. We see a jumbled mess, while He is looking at the greater picture. He is taking our success and our failure and molding them to fit into the big picture. That’s why I love the line “to see that you’re shaping my life.”

I know that right now in my life, I see it. It excites me. I’m ecstatic because I see what He is doing and although I don’t know exactly what He is doing, I see that He is at work, shaping my life.

Pre-Chorus:

All I am, I surrender.

Then the pre-chorus says, “All I am, I surrender.” What a proclamation. Don’t say this if you don’t mean it. These are words you should not haphazardly say. We’re all sinners. We all deserve death but because of the highest price that Jesus paid on the cross, we get to live. We’re not worthy but God sees we are worth it. We see failure. He sees success. I have nothing good to offer to the unconditionally loving God that I serve. Although we don’t have much, we should be giving Him everything. We should be surrendering everything that we are. Those are some powerful words.

Chorus:

Give me faith to trust what you say
That you’re good and your love is great
I’m broken inside, I give you my life

The chorus is asking for Him to give us faith to trust what He says. When God tells us something, and then things aren’t going the way we planned, are we quick to question it? Or do we trust it? Without going into detail, He told me to pursue something almost 5 months ago. It has taken a great amount of faith and trust. At first, I kept getting every reason in the world on why I shouldn’t pursue what He told me to pursue and everything in me wanted to give up. But there was one huge reason that I shouldn’t.

That was because He told me to. Knowing it was Him telling me this, as a Christian, I needed to be obedient. I have been and I’ll continue. The road that I’m on right now is full of rejection and hardship and I’m not sure why but I still have many reasons to be joyful and thankful in this season. Without Him, I’m nothing and I’m broken. That’s why we need to give him our lives because we aren’t anything without Him. There will always be a God-shaped whole in our heart that only He can fill.

Bridge:

‘Cause I may be weak
But Your spirit strong in me
My flesh may fail
My God you never will

Now the bridge… I can’t even begin to explain the strong feelings I have for this part of the song. I’m joking around but at the same time, I’m not. This is my favorite part of the song.
We are weak but His spirit, that is living inside of us, gives us strength. And even though we fail every single day, we serve a God that never will! That’s something to sing about!

It is pretty simple to learn. It only took 10 minutes to teach my youth band. The song is originally sung by a guy, which is no capo on the chart you will receive in your email. If a girl is leading, try capo 2 or 3. Subscribe below for the chord chart to this song!

Ultimate Christian Workout Playlist

I’ve recently started working out again. I know, shocker. Hopefully I will not end up quitting like every time I try this. We all do it. I know I’m not the only one. So in honor of me getting back into the workout saddle (is that a thing?), I’ve decided to put together a Christian workout playlist. When I work out, I love to listen to ‘get pumped’ music. Most of the time when I am running, slow worship songs comes on and although they are great songs, it just doesn’t fit the whole ‘get pumped’ mood.

Slow Song: Jesus I Come by Elevation Worship

By March 1, 2017 Youth Worship
Jesus i come lyrics chords start worship band

Jesus I come

I remember the first time I ever heard this song. I was driving to Michigan for Christmas and every single word just spoke joy into my heart. Ever since then, I have been begging for our worship team to do ‘Jesus I Come.’ We actually just learned it this past Sunday and will hopefully be playing it this Wednesday. I love both the chords and the lyrics to this song. My absolute favorite part of this song is the bridge.

Lyrics

Verse 1:
Oh how I need Your grace
More than my words can say
Jesus I come Jesus I come
In all my weaknesses
You are my confidence
Jesus I come Jesus I come
Chorus:
I will rise stand redeemed
Heaven open over me
To Your name eternally
Endless glory I will bring (oh)
Verse 2:
Oh what amazing love
We need Your cleansing flood
Jesus I come Jesus I come
In every broken place
You are my righteousness
Jesus I come Jesus I come
Bridge:
Thank You Jesus
Just as I am I come
Hallelujah
Oh what amazing love

Why I love the bridge

The reason I love the bridge is because it says just as I am I come. It focuses on the fact that we don’t need to be perfect before we start following Jesus. We don’t have to have it all together because are savior has it all together. Jesus doesn’t want us after we have been a Christian for a certain amount of years. He doesn’t want us after we do a really good deed at least once a week. He wants us as we are. Jesus wants us in our brokenness. You don’t have to wait to put the pieces back together before coming to Him. Wanting to put the pieces back together is what He is wanting to do.

So when it says “Just as I am I come” it instantly brings tears to my eyes. A great and almighty God wants me. He wants my filth, so He can cleanse me. He wants my brokenness so He can fix it.

The entire song, overall was well written and makes for an amazing worship song. For the chords to this song, Subscribe below.

You Won’t Relent

I love this song. The first time I heard it, I fell in love with it. The words are just so astounding. There are 4 different parts to the song and they are all amazing.
This is one of my favorites to do with the youth because it is such an emotional song. I could do this song every single Wednesday because it’s that good but most Wednesday’s we don’t have a drummer. My boyfriend says that this song needs drums or else it won’t have the dynamics it needs to sound phenomenal. This song has a lot of quiet and an equal amount of loud parts to it. There are a lot of builds and a lot of drops. So if you’re going to do this song, drums are recommended.
