How He Loves by John Mark McMillan
This is a slow song is one of my favorites and we definitely over-do it in my worship band. It is our go to song when something gets messed up or we aren’t prepared enough for what we’ve been practicing. And it never fails to get the church singing of a love that is so deep, so wide, so long, and so high. Most people know the David Crowder version, but my all time favorite version of this song is the original by John Mark McMillan.
Love has so many different meanings… There’s brotherly love, husband/wife love, Godly love, etc. So often in life we can use it like it is just another word; and often, it looses its meaning. The kind of love that John talks about in this song is a messy love. It’s a love that is willing to love no matter how messy or gross. It is willing to love things that are difficult. It is a strong love. That no matter how screwed up we are, or how angry we are, God loves us anyways. In the midst of our sin, in the midst of our trials, God loves us. He loves us with a love that is so powerful, a love that is so unconditional, and a love that is absolutely relentless. That is the kind of love that John is talking about in this song.
