Week 6 of the ‘Like Jesus’ Challenge: Complaining

Hello! How was your week spending time with God last week and the week before. If you didn’t do last weeks challenge (spending time with God), click here. If you would like to start from the beginning of the “Like Jesus” challenge, click here.

So for this week, each day, you need to go without complaining. This is something so small… but we do it multiple times on a daily basis. If we want to be Christ-like, we need to stop complaining about everything. Even if they are small things. I’m so guilty of this and if you were to be honest, I’m sure you could say that you catch yourself complaining at some point during the day.

I’m sure Jesus DID NOT say,

“Man why do I have to die on the cross for all these sins when I’ve done nothing wrong.”
“This headache from that crown of thorns is killing me.”
“This cross is so heavy, why do I have to carry it so far.”
“I shouldn’t have to wake up from my nap to calm a storm. They didn’t trust me, I’m going back to bed.”

Complaining is something most Christians become prone to. If it’s your own actions that caused it, you have no reason to complain. And complain to the right person, don’t just shoot the messenger. All of your friends don’t want to hear about it. Rather than gossiping, go directly to someone and resolve an issue. It’s all about how you handle it. The point is, you don’t have to constantly complain about every little thing that isn’t just the way you like it or expect it. What non-Christian would be attracted to the Christian lifestyle if all they hear is us complaining?

We need to stop complaining. Look positively about the day rather than little small negative ones. So try your hardest to complain as little as possible this week. Get onto yourself about it often and you will notice you start catching yourself before saying a word.
I have had many friends that would nonstop complain about everything and let me tell you, it is not an attractive characteristic. Especially in a relationship. I try to avoid people that complain all the time because I am quick to start doing it too if I’m around it. Even though it annoys me and makes me not want to be around the person, it still rubs off on me. This is something all Christians could work on.

So this week, take the time to think before complaining and stop yourself. Enjoy the things you are given, not complain about the way they were given to you. It may be hard at first but you’ll start doing it less and less, in time.
Good luck this week! Do past challenges too; let them become habits. Memorize scripture, smile at people, send notes to your friends! Let God change your heart and attitude one week at a time.
